Lee Jii’s work explores forms that dissolve boundaries and resist fixed outlines.
In her solo exhibition Boundless Void, opening February 4 at TYA Gallery, she engages the concept of emptiness (空)—not as absence, but as an open field where forms shift, dissolve, and quietly begin again. Through recurring motifs like Buddha figures, teacups, elephants, and wells, Lee visualizes a self that transcends separation. Her materials—diluted ink, mineral pigments, stone powder—accumulate in slow layers, allowing color and contour to emerge and blur over time. “Emptiness,” she says, “is not about letting go—it’s a passage beyond boundaries, toward openness and new possibility.”
